Around 3,000 Union Members’ Commitment to Struggling to Stop Medical Privatization and Win in the 2019 Industry-level Collective Bargaining on Wage
With its 3,000 union members, the Korean Health and Medical Workers’ Union (KHMU) proclaimed its struggles for the latter half of this year with the slogan “Safe Hospitals for Patients, Respect Labor at Workplaces.”
On June 13, the KHMU held a proclamation convention to announce its all-out struggle at the northern side of the Gwanghwamun Square. The union members made commitment to following struggles: ▲Win in the 2019 Industry-level Collective Bargaining on Wage ▲Convert the atypical job positions to regular and permanent positions ▲ Secure the public health services/Stop medical privatization ▲ Reinstate fired workers ▲ Immediately ratify the ILO core conventions. In addition, they showed their resolution for the 4OUT 2OK campaign, which is to kick out free labor, atypical job positions, verbal and physical abuses, cheat on certification and to observe the medical act and make a safe hospital.
In <The 2019 Health and Medical Worker’s Declaration on Struggle for Safe Hospitals for Patients, Respect Labor at Workplaces>, the convention participants demanded that ▲ Training-dedicated nurses for newcomers should be secured. Maternity leave-considered employment system should be implemented. The nursing-care integrated system should be applied to more wards. More nursing staff with a higher level of practices should be introduced thereby more decent jobs should be created in the health and medical sector. ▲ In addition, the KHMU will continue to mount the struggles to regularize the irregular workers in job positions. ▲ It will also urge the government to stop and withdraw any medical privatization policies including deregulations on medical services and bio-health innovation strategies. ▲ It will keep fighting for more public hospitals and to encourage hospitals not to fire workers.
