KHMU Members and Officers

 

KHMU has 85,000 members, out of who 78% are women. KHMU membership covers nurses, medical engineers, nursing aides, pharmacists, dieticians, administrative and technical staffs who are working in hospitals and medical clinics. In addition, KHMU has 500 full-time officers (100 full-time officers including leadership in headquarter and 11 regions and 400 full-time officers at a local level).

KHMU Finance

 

KHMU’s annual budget amounts to 8.2 billion won ($ 8.2 million). KHMU members pay their dues with 0.97% percent of total wage per a month. KHMU budget is allocated to national headquarter with 39 percent of membership dues, to regions with 11 percent and to locals with 50 percent.


 

KHMU History and Affiliation

 

KHMU was established as first-ever industrial union on 27 February, 1998. The predecessor of KHMU, the Korean Federation of Hospital Workers’ Unions had been maintained in 1987 – 1997.

KHMU covers all the health workers working in hospital. KHMU is nationally affiliated to KCTU, and internationally to PSI and UNI Global union. 

 


KHMU Principles

 

We realize a humane life and labour rights by securing living wage, employment stability, improved working conditions and workers’ participation in management.

We materialize an equal and humane health care for the people by eradicating irregularities at work and strengthening public medical system.

We enlarge our organizational capacity and develop industrial bargaining and struggle by raising the consciousness of unionists, organising the unorganised and struggling against oppression and control at work.

We take the initiative in unity and solidarity of workers in succession to proud tradition of independent and democratic trade union movement.

We democratically transform our society by making workers a political force, and struggle on building a democratic society to guarantee dignity, equality and the basic rights for the people.

We struggle on promoting the socio-political status of women workers and realising gender equality.

We seek to peacefully reunify our divided nation.

We strengthen the capacity of international labour movement and realize the world peace in solidarity with workers all over the world
