The Workers’ Day in Yeungnam was held on Oct 8.
Workers fired by the Yeungnam University Medical Center have continued to protest on the roof for 100 days now.
The Korean Health and Medical Workers’ Union (KHMU) and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) held jointly rally named “Workers’ Day for Victory on Struggles against Yeungnam University Medical Center” scheduled on October 8 (4:00 pm at the intersection around the medical center).
It will be 100th day of protest-on-the roof (70 meter high) by Park Moon-jin fired by the center (advising member at KHMU) and Song Young-sook (Vice head of the branch) who have been calling for “fact-finding investigation on union-busting attempts, punishment on those in charge of the attempts, normalization of labor union and reinstatement of fired workers.”
The union-busting specialized firm, Changjo Consulting was hired by the center’s management and their imprisonment was already ruled on by the Supreme Court. Therefore, the management who outsourced such illegal actions must make apologies and take measures to recover all back. But, rather, they have constantly backed out. To address the industrial disputes, “private mediation” was tried but the position gap between the two parties failed to be narrower.
